With SCE 2.0, Belgium is pursuing the goal of raising tax compliance in the checkout area to a new digital level.
The Belgian tax authorities officially announced on June 25, 2025 that the introduction of SCE 2.0 (Système de Caisse enregistreuse) will be postponed. Instead of July 1, 2025 as originally planned, the new regulation will now come into force on January 1, 2026. To the official announcement of the tax authority
For existing systems under SCE 1.0, a staggered transition is planned from July 1, 2026, according to an official announcement by the Belgian tax authorities. Depending on the commissioning date of the respective POS system.
The postponement was necessary because there are currently no new POS systems or FDMs available that are compatible with the SCE 2.0 specification.
The Belgian government is also considering extending the obligation to use SCE 2.0 to other industries beyond the HORECA sector in the future.
To provide the best possible support for POS manufacturers and companies in Belgium, efsta is currently working on a new EFR solution for Belgium. This is being specially developed to meet the requirements of the SCE 2.0 regulation and to enable smooth integration into existing POS systems.
