Cloud fiscalization in Italy: Everything you need to know now

Italy introduces cloud fiscalization in 2026. Find out what companies need to know now, what solutions are available and how efsta can support you with the transition.

In Italy, fiscalization is facing a fundamental change. Following the introduction of electronic invoicing, the transmission of transaction data is now also being comprehensively digitalized. From 2026, companies will be able to transmit tax-relevant transactions to the Italian tax authority(Agenzia delle Entrate) completely cloud-based for the first time. This marks the start of a new chapter in Italy's fiscal strategy - and companies should familiarize themselves with the new requirements in good time.

What does the new cloud fiscalization in Italy mean?

From 2026, all companies in Italy will be obliged to fiscalize their transactions. Two different options are available for this:

1. Traditional solution: fiscal printer or RT server

Since 2019, the use of so-called Registratori Telematici (RT) or fiscal printers has been required by law in Italy. These devices transmit the fiscal-relevant sales data to the tax authority at the end of each day via the Sistema di Interscambio (SDI). For many systems, a physical connection between the cash register and the device is required.

2. Cloud solution: direct connection to the tax authority

The new alternative consists of a completely cloud-based solution that does not require certified printer hardware and has a direct connection to the Agenzia delle Entrate. The new, certified software solution consists of two components - PEM and PEL. These exchange the transaction data and transmit it in bundled form at the end of the day directly to the Sistema di Accoglienza of the Italian tax authority.

Both solutions guarantee the legally required transmission of data - but differ significantly in terms of technology, integration and flexibility.

Important information on the current situation

▶️ An official list of certified providers is not yet available.

▶️ The test environment(sandbox) is currently not available.

▶️ There is currently no officially approved cloud solution on the market.

For the time being, the use of fiscal printers remains the only recognized and legally compliant fiscalization method.
